Rifle Shooting at SEG

Twenty scouts met Saturday morning at 7am and headed out to Ashburn for a morning of rifle safety instruction and shooting.

We went out to Silver Eagle Group, a very nice shooting facility that the troop has visited in the past. SEG and its instructors opened their doors for us early, providing 3+ hours of quality instruction and shooting time.

The scouts learned about gun safety with an opportunity to individually handle the .22 rifles in a classroom setting before moving to the shooting range. At the range, the scouts practiced shooting in both a standing and sitting position with targets at varying distances. Between shooting sessions, the instructors discussed the targets individually with each scout, offering suggestions on improving accuracy.

We were able to complete many of the requirements for the rifle shooting merit badge, and the scouts received certificates noting the accomplishment. For those scouts who did not pick up their certificates, please see me at tomorrow night’s meeting.

Finally, a big thank you to all the parents who helped supervise.
