Skiing at Timberline

Troop 1916 had its inaugural 3-day ski trip at Timberline Four Seasons Resort in West Virginia.

Taking advantage of Fairfax Schools having Friday off, most of the crew headed out Thursday evening while the remainder came Friday. Friday was a chilly day of skiing with the snow making machines blowing all day to take advantage of the cold temps and lay some fresh powder. Conditions were chilly but excellent. Saturday and Sunday turned out to be perfect condition ski days starting in the twenties and warming to the mid thirties both sunny afternoons. Everyone enjoyed the long winding green salamander run, while the more advanced worked up to the black diamond white lightning run.

In total we had 10 scouts, 3 siblings and 7 parents on the trip. 6 scouts passed their alpine sports clinic and exam to receive their merit badges. All enjoyed the sparse bunkhouse lodging and cafeteria style meals :)) I fondly refer to it as slope-side camping. The boys bonded well in the tight bunkhouse setup before lights-out at about 10p each night.

Overall excellent trip with the exception of one parent injury requiring a ride home Saturday - special thanks to Mike Forrer for driving round-trip Saturday afternoon.

Looking forward to doing the trip again next year with no injuries!! Photos forthcoming.
