Philmont Trek 701-7B

After a year of prep work the Philmont Crew finally got off the ground and headed west to New Mexico.

The Crew, Braden, Mario, Manuel, Jason, Ian, Kai, Matthew, Nino and Charlie were ably assisted by Mr. Forrer, Mr. Harrington and some dodgy old English guy.

You can read the full trip report here.

A ranger can really make or break your trek. We were lucky enough to have a fella called Fordham (who was from just down the road in Oakton). He clearly knew his stuff, cared deeply about the boys and loved Philmont. So, a big thank you to him.

Overall, it was an amazing experience. We hiked, we played, we learned a lot about pooing in the woods, about the 4 T's when coming to trail junction signs (don't Touch, Don't Turn, Don't Tinkle and Don't Trust). Unlike all our prep-hikes not one trail in Philmont is blazed! So you actually do need to know where you are and what direction you are meant to be going -- something the boys did pretty well (in the end!).

Luckily we didn't have any serious injuries or have any one suffer too much from altitude sickness -- just a few of the guys deciding to have pretty frequent nose bleeds -- with Matthew leading the way.
